We had an interim presentation where we presented the things we had made up until that point. We got the following feedback which we decided to heed and immediately began to fix.
1. The poacher wasn't scary enough. We decided to redesign him using the rule of disney - the more linear and squarer a character is the more evil he is. We also decided to give him a bigger gun. We looked at the poacher in UP and in Jimanji to get inspiration.
2. Jamie needed a front state. Currently she was only ever seen on the side. She also needed something to make her better - blinking was suggested and it is what we decided to go with.
3. Our animals should have a happy state when Jamie comes to get them. We decided to make a 'free'd animation which would play when Jamie gets within a certain distance of the animal.
4. Ridiculous sound effects - we had plans to record children saying things like 'boing' for when she jumped and this reaffirmed our plans.
5. It was also suggested that we look at how our levels were and the difficulty progression. We sat down after the presentation and re-drafted our levels. I wanted to make sure that the theme and the original concept of the game did not get lost in the redesign. Likewise no one wanted any work done to that time to be wasted. We came up with the idea of having three levels. The first level would have Pandas but no poacher. The second level would have Pandas and Gorillas and introduce a poacher who shoots darts. The third level would have Pandas, Gorillas and Tigers, a poacher who shoots darts and mud traps which slow you down. We also decided that we needed a tutorial screen.
