After recording my experience after shaving my legs the first time I picked out all the important sensory experiances. I used specific words or phrases to try and communicate the experience which is important. To better identify these I categorized them into the senses.
Sight:
-The soap leaves a white trail like a snail
-The hand makes a waving motion
-Clear line of skin peaking through
-Skin looks shinny
-17 times for the left leg and 19 times for the right
-Grey fluffy gunk in the razor after each stroke
-Skin is peachy colored with odd shaped red patches
-The moisturizing strip issues a green gunge
Smell:
-Vanilla tinged clean
-The smell before something smells so clean its sterile
-Clear
-Makes you feel full and hard to breathe
-Encompassing
Taste:
-Vanilla tinge
-Something brushing your tongue but not enough to taste it
-Metallic and warm
-Yucky
Touch:
-Soap is slippery and smooth
-Warm from steam
-Razor is held like a pen
-Leaves a smooth patch
-Slimey
-Fluffy gunk
-Tiny warm beads
-Explode on my skin
-Mildly hard
-Calf feels stretched
-Moisturizing strip is thick and sticky
Hear:
-Slapping noise
-Industrial
Other:
-Ingrained process
-No concentration
-Dangerous, Sexy and Intimate
It is interesting to see that shaving my legs primarily involves sight and touch and a little smell. For the next two times I have this experience I will concentrate more on hearing and taste. I also decided to add other as a category for my experience. This is because there were things I noticed about it that could not be categorized by a sense however I felt they were important to mention. This is because when talking about senso-ethnography I felt that there was a focus on trying to communicate the experience in ways that were not just verbal or written. The things I put in other were important to the experience but are not typically involved with a sense rather they are mental or feelings associated with the activity.
