Tactile Sight

I have decided that for my multi-sensory diary I will create a book that explores the tactile experience of shaving and the sights that accompany this. After looking at all my participants I brainstormed the key parts of the shaving experience. I had 10 in total: Stepping onto the shower floor, the feel of the water, how females feel their unshaven legs, how males feel their unshaven faces, the feel of the soap, the feel of the soap once its on your hands, the feel of the razor, the feel of the shave, the feel of the difference between shaved and unshaved and the feel of the finished product. My idea is to have a booklet where each page is dedicated to the above touches. I will use materials which convey the tactile qualities but at the same time are moving away from associations with the bathroom so as not to create any linear conclusions.

After consulting with Sarah about my idea she suggested that instead of my original idea of making a sound if I put photographs conveying the sights of the experience on the backs of the booklet pages. This is so the booklet can be read and experienced in two ways. I like this idea more so I am going to include it. To help convey that the tactile sound is purely for touch I am going to include a blindfold in my booklet so the user has to remove sight in order to experience touch.
